Play Therapy
Play Therapy is an intervention of ages 3-10 to assist with managing emotions and behaviors using the powers of play to explore emotions and experiences , regulate behaviors and enhance self expression in the way that children express themselves best-through play! Play Therapy sessions typically are therapist and child sessions, and are about 50-60 minutes in length.
Child-Parent Therapy
Parents are the most important healing agent for their child, and parent-child sessions are conducted with young children to assist parents in helping their child through tough times and hard emotions using the tools of interpersonal biology, coregulation and attachment science. The parent/caregiver, therapist and child will be in the session, and they are about 50-60 minutes in length.
Parent Coaching
Parenting is the hardest job there is, and sometimes parents/and caregivers need assistance with the struggles their child is experiencing, support in their own personal growth, as well as feedback on their child’s progress towards therapy goals. Parent sessions are for therapist and parent and are about 50-60 minutes in length.

Meet The Therapist
Jennifer Gerber, LPC-S RPT-S
Jennifer is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor whose career has been primarily focused on strengthening mental wellness for children and families for the last 17 years. Jennifer is also a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor,and is trained in Theraplay,Filial Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy. Jennifer's work with children focus' on parent mental wellness, self-regulation and assertiveness. Jennifer is also focused on supporting the child-parent connection using the power of play and coregulation skills in her work with parents and children. Jennifer has worked in local mental health agencies, as well as a group practice, and opened her own private practice in 2022 in Lexington, SC. Gerber Play Therapy is now currently located in Irmo, SC.
What is Play Therapy?
Play Therapy is an evidence based treatment modality for young children experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties, or who may be struggling with difficult changes in their lives. Play Therapy involves the use of therapeutic toys and games, as well as the facilitation of therapeutic relationship of the child and therapist, as a means to explore emotions, life experiences, developmental needs and self expression in a safe, non-judgemental space.
Our goal is to assist children with regulating emotions, expressing emotions, processing difficult experiences in their lives, increasing emotional regulation skills, developing strategic and creative problem solving skills, and strengthens social skills and self esteem.
Gerber Play Therapy can assist with anxiety symptoms, ADHD. depression, adjustments to big life changes (divorce, death of family member, medical issues), problems with school, anger outbursts, behavioral struggles and trauma. ALL of these things can result in emotional and behavioral problems for children and Gerber Play Therapy is here to help with strategie and solutions to assist your child in thriving, succeeding and developing confidence in themselves.
